Artistic Residency for European Cooperation Project – Focus on Music and Sound

Date limite de candidature : vendredi 15 mars 2024

This call is directed to European artists with a close relation with music and sound, with a focus on experimentation, innovation, improvisation, cooperative creation and audience engagement.

It concerns the 3 residencies of the 1st cycle of action of Access (2024-2025). The selected artists will take part of one artistic residency, with a duration of seven days.

During each residency, a group of 7 European artists will work collectively under several work strategies, from open and graphic scores, soundscape composition, sonic ecology or collective improvisation to create, record and present publicly the output of their work.

ACCESS is a Creative Europe supported project aiming for more opened musical experiences for the audience. In places normally not used for music, we will experiment new forms of listening and creating, and of engaging audiences and artists. Between 2024 and 2026, European artists and musicians from improvised and creative music will experiment it during six artistic residencies in France, Portugal and Czech Republic, in close relation with the territories and inhabitants.

Residencies

Each residency has a specific theme, directly related with the space where it will take place.

Residency #1: Prague | 23 to 29 September 2024 | Coordinated by Unijazz

The artists will work with a group of teenagers within secondary school environment. Together they will prepare site specific performance floating through the school enabling the visitors to experience the architecture of the school in unusual/new perspectives. We search mostly for musicians experienced in work with teenagers, but not only, if you feel you are right to work in this kind of project, do not hesitate to submit your application with explaining why you could be the right person to work with teenagers. And also we seek for 1 or 2 dancers and/or visual artists. For the residency, there will be a tutor or a lecturer experienced in working with teenagers to help the team if necessary.

Residency #2: Lille | 7 to 13 October 2024 | Coordinated by Muzzix

The residency will take place in a patrimonial site of Lille metropolitan area, probably in a heritage site in relation with the industrial past of the region. The artists will particularly take into account this in situ character in their work during the research-action. We will work closely with the local population to include them in the creative process: a participatory ensemble could be part of the creative process and participate to the final work presentation with the artists. They could experiment together on how to discover a new quality of listening thanks to practice and exploration of sounds and music collectively.

Residency #3: Porto | 12 to 18 May 2025 | Coordinated by Sonoscopia

The focus of this residency will be the development of a series of small actions – performances and recordings, with the local community surrounding Sonoscopia’s neighbourhood. On a city such as Porto, whose touristic growth produced radical changes in the city’s historical dynamic, rethinking urban areas outside the centre can point some directions towards a more balanced social development. On this residency, we will work closely with the local population, inviting them to participate, create, eat, drink and live collectively.

Conditions

Duration of each residency : 7 days.
The total fee for 7 days of work for each participant is 1680€ including employer’s costs.
Travel, food and accommodation costs will be covered for the seven days of the residency.
